Mango Tea

Mango Tea can be Good for your Health

If you like the taste of mango and are a tea aficionado, mango tea is something you have to try. Good as a hot winter drink or as a cool summer ice tea, mango tea can be bought or you can take a stab at making it yourself.  Most people use green tea or orange pekoe tea and let it seep in peeled and cut-up pieces of mango.

When you drink mango tea, you can take advantages of both the benefits in the tea and in the mangos. For instance, the health benefits of green tea have been touted in the news lately and mangos have their own set of health benefits, some of which are even the same. The advertised benefits of green tea include strengthening the immune system, aiding arthritis and osteoporosis, helping liver function, lowering cholesterol, preventing heart disease and some cancers, and even helping skin and hair problems.

Making mango tea using green tea would add even more health-positive ingredients from the mango itself. Mangos give you anti-oxidants--these are from beta carotene, which gives the mango its orange color. They contain proteolytic enzymes, which break down protein and aid in digestion. Mangos also help lower cholesterol and prevent heart disease, and are being studied for their positive effects in preventing some cancers. Researchers in India are studying mangos for lupeol content, which may help with prostate cancer, inflammation and arthritis, malaria and diabetes.

Both green and black tea leaves contain polyphenols, which are anti-oxidants and can reduce the cell damage caused by free radicals, a natural byproduct of the body’s use of oxygen. Ask your doctor before drinking green tea, as it can cause reactions with some medications. A combination of black tea and mangos to make mango tea would be essentially just as effective.

Many people have come up with their own recipes for mango tea, plus there are all types of mango tea you can buy. Some of these include organic green mango tea, minted mango tea, red mango tea, orange mango cinnamon tea, lemon mango tea, mango passion fruit tea, apricot mango tea, orange jasmine mango tea, mandarin mango tea and mango nut tea. There is even a recipe you can find online for mango and green tea sorbet.

Iced tea is a real thirst quencher in the summer, and there is a simple iced mango tea recipe that is more or less generic and can be made in any quantity. Just boil five cups of water in your teapot, pour over five bags of orange pecot tea, add three peeled crushed mangos, and let cool. You can serve it in individual glasses with ice.

If any of this sounds good, give mango tea a try, either cold or hot. You may discover a favorite new tea with many potential health benefits.
